Activision's 'Warzone 2.0' Records 25 Million Players in First Five Days

Amid recurring issues, 'Warzone 2.0' sets impressive figures.

Activision reveals that "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0," its newly released multi-platform free-to-play Battle Royale, is already breaking sales records less than a month after launch. The video game publisher says that "Warzone 2.0" was already played by 25 million players in the first five days of going live.

Record-breaking Numbers

This new breed of Battle Royale video game action was released on Nov. 16, shortly after the release of the highly anticipated launch of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

In a tweet thanking "Warzone 2" players, the Call of Duty Twitter account mentioned that the game recorded over 25 million players in 5 days.

According to NME, in order to surpass the first Warzone game in terms of sales in the first ten days, the new game must reach 30 million players within the next five days. These are some challenging figures, but it is not impossible, given the reviews that the game has received so far.

Meanwhile, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II" has broken $1 billion in global sales after just 10 days since its Oct. 28 release, continuing to shatter franchise records. The new record surpasses the old mark, held by "Black Ops II" in 2012 for 15 days.

"Warzone 2.0" is far from perfect despite receiving a few favorable reviews. Numerous bugs have been discovered since the game's launch, one of which prevents players from accessing the game unless they purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The game also has a "mostly negative" rating on Steam despite having only recently been released. Players have complained about nickname system issues, constant lag, and a useless menu.

Activision Blizzard's most recent drop is now live, but Battle.net is reportedly experiencing strikingly slow download speeds that limit players' access to it. People may experience lengthy download speeds for this game due to the Activision Blizzard platform's notoriously slow speeds.

More About the Game

Despite the recurring issues, there is still a lot to look forward to in "Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0."

Warzone 2.0's new maps are reminiscent of previous games' locations, with redesigns and tweaks to fit the new battle royale title and its offerings to the world.

Al Mazrah is a brand-new map in the massive free-to-play combat arena. With this map, you can join forces with your friends and enter a sprawling battleground in the Republic of Adal's metropolitan area and rural outskirts. Al Mazrah brings with it brand-new gameplay innovations, new player mechanics, and the all-new DMZ mode.

Infinity Ward describes DMZ as a "dangerous, diverse, and deep open world experience in which players can choose their level of intensity."

Even in its early stages, the DMZ experience is designed for the most ardent completionists: with Faction Missions, Contracts, World Events, stocking up the Stash, assisting other squads (or causing chaos), breaking open locked areas, and much more.
