Apple revealed via its press release that the new Emergency SOS via satellite is now available for the United States and Canada region, for all devices under the iPhone 14 lineup.

The demo is now available for users to test and know how it works, one that would be available in their time of need even without signal or reception.

To test the feature, users need to go to the outdoor location, may it be on the street, their yards, or rooftops to maximize the feature.

Next, go to Settings, and scroll down to Emergency SOS. Find the "Try Demo" option to launch the service, where they will need to follow the on-screen instructions to connect to satellites.

After connecting to satellites, users will have a view of the conversation one would have with emergency services, where they need to fill out several information to help their situation. After their connection to satellites, they have to option to end it via the top right corner of the smartphone.

The Emergency SOS Satellite Feature: Is It Helpful?

The Cupertino giant said that it invested as much as $450 million in US infrastructure to make this Emergency SOS feature possible for people to use. The company is expanding its services to help everyone owning the iPhone 14 connect to emergency responders and their loved ones, giving their locations and situations even without a cellular signal.

Apple's Satellite Connections for the iPhone 14

Back when Apple is still months away from launching the iPhone 14, there are massive speculations behind it, regarding its capability to connect to satellites to send text messages. However, it is not what people thought it was, as it cannot connect directly to satellites to send texts for regular needs, but is intended for the Emergency SOS feature only.

It is still one handy technology, especially in places with low reception and signal for carriers to reach the place, one where it will allow people to contact emergency services and loved ones.

The satellite feature for the iPhone 14 may center on the Emergency SOS feature only, but there are speculations regarding the feature expanding on the iPhone 15 to deliver satellite communications.

Later iPhones may have the capability to send texts even if these are not life-or-death situations, despite having no signal or being unreachable.

For now, users will have to use the satellite features only for emergencies, and this may be the perfect time to test it out and be ready for any problems in the future. Additionally, it is only available for the US and Canada iPhone 14 owners only, with the feature soon expanding to more countries and helping them connect to emergency services with their satellite texts.
