A Hummer EV owner says that a taillight replacement costs quite a lot after getting a quote from the renowned automaker GM.

But is this pricing for real? Well, as much as it looks like some mistake, it sure is around that range, confirms GM.

Hummer EV Owner Reveals How Much a Taillight Replacement Costs

As per the latest report by The Drive, it looks like Hummer EV owners have to be scrupulously careful with the taillights of the all-electric car. Damaging one of those plastics at the rear of your vehicle could already cost you thousands of dollars, to begin with.

Thanks to a Hummer EV owner, who took to Facebook the surprising quote that he had, we now know that the cost of replacing the taillights of this electric SUV is going to empty your wallets. Well, not unless you are one of those super-rich folks.

The owners disclosed on a Facebook post that the passenger taillight alone of his Hummer EV sells to the tune of $4,040.

If you think it is already a staggering amount for a replacement of plastic housing, it is not the total cost. It is to note that it has yet to include the labor cost.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - FEBRUARY 10: GMC displays the Hummer EV at the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place convention center on February 10, 2022 in Chicago, Illinois. The show, the nation's largest and longest-running, is open to the public February 12-21.

So it turns out that the said pricing only covers that taillight itself. Not to mention that if you damaged both of these rear coverings, it would surely cost you twice.

How Much Does it Really Cost?

Given that the pricing was unbelievably expensive, the folks from The Drive reached out to GM to confirm the actual pricing of its Hummer EV taillights. And it turns out the pricing is not far from the quote that the Hummer EV owner received.

The Drive reports that GM retails a single taillight replacement for its electric SUV at a whopping 3,045.48. If you are looking to replace both, you will have to spend a hefty $6,100.

According to a recent story by Inside EVs, the official pricing still excludes the cost of labor and tax.

All that said, you might want to check twice when parking your vehicle backward. Otherwise, you might have to spare roughly $8,000 when you break those precious plastic coverings.

Why is the Hummer EV Taillight Replacement So Expensive?

We get it. Replacing those taillights on a Hummer EV is expensive. But why is it priced that way?

GM has yet to actually explain why. But Inside EVs assume that it has to do with the complexity of the taillight. It is worth mentioning that its light modules feature microcontrollers to produce some fancy animations.
