The PS5 restock in August 2022 has seen a slight improvement as one of the latest waves stayed longer than most people expected. When Sony just recently kicked off its PS5 restock bundle, it took 19 hours before it sold out.

Factors that Affect the PS5 Restock Include Global Chip Shortage and Scalpers

Upon its initial launch, the PS5 restock would usually vanish in only a matter of seconds, leaving a lot of buyers frustrated since they had no choice but to either wait for a new wave of restocks or buy the console at scalper prices.

There were multiple reasons why this was the case, and one of them was the global chip shortage and the fact that most of the consoles were sold online. Due to the global chip shortage, only a limited amount of consoles were shipped out every so often.

Scalpers Used Bots to Help them Make Profits from Buying and Reselling Consoles

Since the restocks were usually posted online, scalpers had the opportunity to wipe out the supply and resell the consoles at higher prices. An article in April of 2021 by the Tech Republic talked about how scalpers were using bots in order to make a profit from buying and reselling the latest consoles.

While it's been almost two years since the PlayStation 5 initially debuted on November 12, 2020, there are still a lot of gamers out there that haven't had the opportunity of snagging the console for themselves.

Recent PS5 Restock Lasted 19 Hours Before It Sold Out

According to the story by The Verge, however, it seems like the situation has changed. The article reported that a new wave of PS5 bundle restocks were able to last about 19 hours after they dropped.

This meant that not only did buyers have less pressure to purchase them, but more buyers had the opportunity to get the console for themselves. Although it's not clear as to whether there were more consoles up for grabs or if the demand had drastically declined, the new record time for the PS5 restock shows how things could be potentially slowing down.

Speculations on Whether This Indicates Recovery in the PS5 Restock Situation

The longer availability time is still not an indicator that buyers will no longer struggle to get their hands on the new PS5 restock. Since this was just one event, fans might have to wait until the same situation is reported from other outlets.

Should all outlets' PS5 restock last longer, this could be a final indicator that the situation has changed and either the supply has been increased enough to cater to the demands of fans or fans have started giving up on purchasing the console.

With the holiday season getting closer and closer, fans will have to wait and see whether the PS5 restock situation will truly change or not.
