Marvel is really hitting it with video games lately, with the PC launch of Insomniac's Spider-Man being basically the talk of the town for the past few days. But aside from their very own Spider-Man sequel, the Wolverine game, and other big titles from other studios, there's another one coming that might be a little interesting.

A Stan Lee-signed copy of "Fantastic Four #555" (Marvel Comics Group, May 2008) is displayed at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, on November 13, 2018. - The comic book is part of a selection of 20 works associated with Lee's comics universe which will be sold November 16-17 at Julien's Auctions' Beverly Hills gallery and online. Stan Lee, who was the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, died November 12 in Los Angeles at age 95.

PlayStation Lifestyle reports that several rumors are pointing out to the next Marvel game being a "Fantastic Four" title. And it's the one being helmed by "Uncharted" creator Amy Hennig at her studio, no less. Hennig's Skydance New Media recently unveiled their partnership with Marvel comics, with the studio's next game actually a part of the Disney Marvel Showcase slated for September 9th.

Rumors are saying that the next Marvel game from the former "Uncharted" writer is indeed a "Fantastic Four" title due to a few reasons. First, Skydance reportedly announced that their new AAA project is a story-heavy, action-adventure game that will feature an "ensemble." This means that it won't be focusing on just one hero as a protagonist, and will likely present the entire group equally in terms of narrative importance and overall screen time.

Another rumor, this time from the podcast "Fatman Beyond" by filmmaker Kevin Smith, says that the game will not only feature the Fantastic Four, but also Ant-Man. But aside from that, there's barely any other rumored details - let alone confirmed ones.

Either way, Amy Hennig is particularly excited about partnering with the pop culture giant for her next triple-A project. Here is an excerpt from a statement she issued earlier this year (via Video Games Chronicle):

"The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery, and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It's an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love."

No release date or window has been given for Skydance Media's Marvel game.

Low Expectations

Marvel games really haven't had much of a success lately - during the past several years, even. A lot of games based on the popular comic book franchise have been maligned and never sold well, and games based on the competing DC universe dominated in their place (i.e. the "Batman Arkham" series and the "Injustice" series, to name a few).

The only exceptions to this rule? Insomniac's "Spider-Man" and Square Enix's "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy," to name a few. As such, Skydance's rumored triple-A Marvel game might face low expectations given that fact. But low expectations don't mean people aren't expecting this game to be good.

Case in point, Amy Hennig herself. She was instrumental in the creation of not just the "Uncharted" series, but also "Jak and Daxter": two of the most iconic franchises in the history of the game industry. Safe to say, gamers are eagerly waiting what kind of original story she pens next.
