When Gmail's new "Material You" design came out, not all users were happy about it. Some people are okay with the redesign while others want to revert to the original look.

Back in June, the company announced that the fresh design would be going to be a default view. However, there's still a way if you miss the nostalgia behind the classic appearance of the app.

If you want to know how to switch back to the previous Gmail design, here's what you need to know.

If you hate the new Gmail design, here's a guide to help you revert to its original design.

Google launched the new look of its free email service last June 28 and the first thing that several users noticed is its more personal design.

The fresh layout appears to be more inclined toward customization, especially for those who want to see a fresh interface when composing an email. Unfortunately, it still looked bad as others preferred the older design of Gmail.

Input Mag says that Google should have decreased the on-screen clutter. The nice addition of new icons could also give it a more attractive look for the users.

When you take a close look at the new Compose button, it seems thicker than usual. The blue shading is also not appealing and it is distracting to the sight.

How to Switch Back to Old Gmail Design

Since the Gmail redesign is quite a test that Google put into trial, it is expected that it won't be smooth at first. As the service provider, the company should be listening to the suggestions of the users for the overall improvement of the app.

Actually, there's a series of steps that can help you reunite with the old look of the app. Here's how to achieve this nostalgic Gmail design in case you want to experience it once again.

  1. From the top right corner of Gmail, tap the Setting gears icon.
  2. Once you see the panel located below "You're using the new Gmail view," tap "Go back to the original view."
  3. When you're finished clicking it, you will notice that there's a box that will pop out. It will ask you why you are switching back to the old Gmail layout. Write a short answer on the space provided.
  4. After writing the reason behind your decision, click the "Reload" button to restart your browser. By this time, you will see that Gmail has reverted to its original design.

How Long Can We See the Previous Gmail Layout View?

As of the moment, Google has not yet announced the final date for the complete removal of the old design. Once the search engine giant finishes all of the necessary updates for the "Material You" look, this could be the time to say goodbye to the classic layout.

We recommend you enjoy this instant switch-back for some time before Google decides to permanently disable it on Gmail.
