Microsoft has named Satya Nadella as Chairman of the Board within the company, at the same time fulfilling his role as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The role given to Nadella is a massive one, and the previous person in Microsoft to serve that role was Bill Gates, before his resignation that vacated the position.

BERLIN, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 27: Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, speaks with Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen AG, (not pictured) at a "fireside chat" to the media about a joint project between the two companies called the Volkswagen Automotive Cloud on February 27, 2019 in Berlin, Germany. Microsoft is working with several automakers to advance the carmakers' digitalization.

After serving as a long-time Microsoft executive, Satya Nadella was given the role of CEO last February 2014 and has been serving under this position for more than 7 years now. Indeed the shoes are hard to fill, but the Indian-American CEO has proven himself and is one of the most highly recognized executives of the modern age.

Microsoft is now valued at more than three trillion US dollars, and CEO Satya Nadella has helped achieve that in his years of serving the company. This has proven him to be one of the most successful CEOs in Microsoft's history, and one of the best of the Big Tech companies of the modern age. With that in mind, Nadella is now ready to take on a more important role.

Microsoft Names Satya Nadella as Chairman of the Board

As a company that has gone public, it would have a lot of executives and chairs to oversee the performance and direction for the greater good of their future endeavors. The role of the CEO is to overlook the company's performance, while the Board's role is to oversee more of the business side of a corporation.

Having said that, it is rare for executives, especially CEOs, to get the role of Board Chairman, especially as both roles are usually kept apart. However, that changes with Satya Nadella, who was named Chairman of the Board for Microsoft, while retaining his role as a CEO.

The last person who had the chairmanship and CEO role was Bill Gates, the co-founder of the company.

Nadella is replacing John Thompson, a known former CEO of Symantec. This happened after an appraisal of the Microsoft CEO, with the proxy statement being filed last December, which commends Nadella for the company's performance that has risen as much as 14 percent in terms of revenue growth, despite the 2020 COVID pandemic.

Nadella Faces New Challenge

A new role means new challenges, and that comes with every job, not just with important ones such as being the chairman of the board.

The question is "What does it take to be the Chairman of the Board for a massive tech company like Microsoft?" and the answer to that is a lot, particularly because it would be more than day-to-day for them.

Nonetheless, Nadella was chosen because the company and its board believe that he is fit for the chairmanship and that he could bring the company to far greater heights.
