Pokemon GO players have unlocked the Dragon Week during the successfully GO Fest 2020, which would allow players to finally have the chance to capture a Rayquaza and a Shiny Rayquaza by defeating the Legendary Boss Raids that will start this Friday, July 31, at 4 p.m. PST.

According to Bleeding Cool, this is the first time Rayquaza has appeared in the game again since dominating Tier Five raids for the entire month of August 2019.

Since its absence, Pokemon GO players have been trying to get one off of trades or hopefully find another Tier Five raid featuring this Dragon-type Pokemon known for its amazing attack stats and its beautiful Shiny.

With that, here's your guide to beating this Legendary Pokemon and getting your own Rayquaza for the Pokedex.

How many players will you need?

Firstly, how many players will you need to defeat this Pokemon?

This Pokemon will have crazy Combat Power (CP), so it's best to have at least three high-level friends to join you in the raid, especially when you have best friend bonuses and weather boost along with the top counters with high CPs.

With these elements, even two Level 40 players could have the chance to bring the Pokemon down.

If you're not that confident, maximize your raid efforts and call four to five Pokemon GO players with at least Level 35 with top counter Pokemon to join the raid and beat this dragon down.

What are the best Pokemon counters?

This Dragon-type Pokemon is a combination of Flying and Dragon, so Ice-type Pokemon and moves should be very effective.

Pokebattler has been calculating which Pokemon works best against Rayquaza, along with the best possible moves they should have, and here's the ten best Pokemon plus moves you could use for the Legendary Boss Raid.

  • Shadow Articuno with Ice Beam + Frost Breath
  • Shadow Mewtwo with Ice Beam + Psycho Cut
  • Shadow Weavile with Avalanche + Ice Shard
  • Shadow Abomasnow with Weather Ball Ice-Type + Powder Snow
  • Shadow Porygon-Z with Blizzard + Hidden Power Ice-Type
  • Galarian Darmanitan with Avalanche + Ice Fang
  • Mamoswine with Avalanche + Powder Snow
  • Weavile with Avalanche + Ice Shard
  • Glaceon with Avalanche + Frost Breath
  • Mewtwo with Ice Beam + Psycho Cut

Unfortunately, not everyone has a shadow Pokemon, and if you have, it could be quite tough also to unlock these necessary moves.

With that, here are ten more non-Shadow Pokemon that you can use for this raid:

  • Kyurem with Blizzard + Dragon Breath
  • Articuno with Ice Beam + Frost Breath
  • Beartic with Ice Punch + Powder Snow
  • Mew with Blizzard + Frost Breath
  • Jynx with Avalanche + Frost Breath
  • Regice with Blizzard + Frost Breath
  • Piloswine with Avalanche + Ice Shard
  • Cloyster with Avalanche + Frost Breath
  • Porygon-Z with Blizzard + Hidden Power Ice-Type
  • Abomasnow with Weather Ball Ice-Type + Powder Snow

How to increase your chance of getting Rayquaza

After defeating, it's now up to your throwing skills to finally get Rayquaza, but you'll have limited chances so you'll want to up your game as best as you can.

With that, you'll want to hit the Pokemon where its face is, which is a medium-length throw seeing as this Pokemon is closer to the screen just like many other Pokemon GO Dragons, then try to throw Excellent throws, which work when the circle shrinks to its smallest.

You'll also want to collect some Golden Razz Berry that you should feed it so you can catch it easier.

Rayquaza usually has 2191 CP, but if it's either windy or snowy, it could climb up to 2739 thanks to the weather boost.

Shiny Rayquaza

If you want a Shiny Rayquaza, you might have to join around 20 raids or so since the odds of encountering it is one in 20, but you could be lucky and find one as soon as you join raids.
