Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has announced the S6 Pro handset, the latest addition to the "S" series family.
Gionee unveiled the S6 in December 2015 and now the company has announced the revised version - the S6 Pro. The mobile phones have many similarities but the new phone has some updated features.
Just like the S6, the S6 Pro sports a 5.5-inch screen but the display of the new smartphone packs in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels instead of 1,280 x 780 pixels.
A 1.8 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755M) chipset with Mali T860MP2 GPU and 4 GB of RAM powers the Gionee S6 Pro. The high capacity RAM of the Gionee S6 Pro boosts the performance of the device. With the split-screen mode, owners can perform two tasks seamlessly without any interruption.
The handset is available with 64 GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card to up to 128 GB. The S6 Pro uses a hybrid dual-SIM slot. Customers have the option to use the slot for an additional SIM or for a microSD card.
The Gionee S6 Pro is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. One of the new features is the slow-motion mode, which allows users to slow down videos.
Fingerprint scanning has become an important feature of mobile phones, allowing users to unlock their phones easily and keeping devices safe from unauthorized use. The Gionee S6 Pro has a fingerprint scanner located on the home button.
The Gionee offering runs on Amigo OS 3.2, an operating system based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The mobile phone includes a 3,130 mAh battery that offers up to 38.6 hours of talk time and up to 558 hours of standby time. The Gionee device supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C.
The Gionee S6 Pro measures 153 x 75.26 x 7.6 millimeters, or 6.02 x 2.96 x 0.29 inches. The handset weighs 170 grams, or 5.99 ounces. The smartphone will be available in three color options: silver, gold and rose gold.
The Gionee phone is available at a price tag of 1,999 yuan, or about $300, via the company's own website or via TMall.
The Gionee S6 Pro has been confirmed only for the Chinese market and details of an international launch remain unknown. Gionee has an impressive fan following in China as well as other countries such as India. The company did launch the Gionee S6 in India and it is likely that the S6 Pro will also be available for India in the near term.
