Highly anticipated augmented reality game Pokémon Go began field testing in Japan in March, followed by Australia and New Zealand a month later. The field testing allowed gamers who were able to register for the program to play the beta version of Pokémon Go, giving them the opportunity to provide feedback to developer Niantic Labs before the official launch of the title.
The field test was expected to be made available in more countries over the weeks leading up to the game's release, and for eager Pokémon fans in the United States, Niantic has good news.
In a post on its official blog, Niantic revealed that field testing for Pokémon Go is coming to the United States, with players invited to sign up for the program through the game's official website.
Niantic noted, however, that signing up will not guarantee that players will be automatically included in the field test. Users that are selected to participate in the program will be required to keep the contents of the app confidential, and must have an iOS or Android device to play the game.
Progress made by players in the game during the field test will not be carried over into the full version of Pokémon Go, with Niantic even stating that a player's progress could be restarted several times during the program.
The beta status of the game would also mean that not all the features that will be included the final version of the title will be accessible, and there could be certain things that will not function properly.
Nevertheless, signing up and being selected to participate in the Pokémon Go field test will be a great experience, especially for the die-hard fans of the franchise that are joining the celebration of its 20th anniversary.
For those who will not be as fortunate as the ones that will be selected to join the field test, the next best thing would be to take a look at this video featuring 8 minutes of gameplay from the title.
