George R.R. Martin, the author and the man behind the Game of Thrones book series, and TV show, is well known for his ability to break even the hardest of hearts by killing off characters without hint or mercy. But guess what? Martin is not done killing off your favorite characters just yet, as things are just getting started.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, George R.R. Martin mentioned that at this moment in time; he doesn't have the flexibility to kill main characters, but ultimately as the story continues, the body count will surely rise.
The reason he's not going on a rampage in Westeroos is because the majority of the main characters are spread about across the land. However, as the climax draws near, which means main characters will definitely meet face-to-face, some of those encounters will turn deadly. For example, if Cersei should ever come across Tyrion again, we all know that such an encounter would leave one or both characters dead, their bodies feasted upon by crows.
According to Martin when speaking to BuzzFeed, "I have a large number of important characters who I switch between to tell the entirety of the story, and that limits who I can kill."
"Sometimes there's only one character who's my eye in a particular location, and if I kill that character everything going on in that particular subplot is going to be lost."
"The way my books are structured, everyone was together, then they all went their separate ways and the story deltas out like that."
"Now it's getting to the point where the story is beginning to delta back in, and the viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time."
By what Martin is saying, fans should be very worried because things are going to heat up, and people are going to die. It is very difficult to envision who will die, because Martin has proven to be a man who is capable of keeping readers wondering what's going to happen next.
Some readers are no longer surprised by popular character death, for they have become immune to George R.R. Martin's immense wickedness. However, for those who are still weak under his thumb, be prepared for a bittersweet end to the Game of Thrones books, because both good and bad characters will meet the sword, and probably dragons and other foul creatures of the night.
