March and April are shaping up to be big months for the Wii U.
In March, Nintendo's console will see the release of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Pokken Tournament. Those major releases will then be followed by Star Fox Zero in April, which will mark the long-awaited return for one of Nintendo's enduring franchises. Finally, it seems the Wii U is getting some games worth being excited about.
Except maybe not. According to a new rumor, Nintendo might not be happy with the current state of Star Fox Zero and will soon decide if it should be delayed or not.
The rumor comes from Twitter user Liam Robertson, who has worked on YouTube's popular "Did You Know Gaming?" video series and works to uncover "lost games" that never saw release.
He says in a tweet he's caught wind of Nintendo going into "panic mode" over Star Fox Zero, and that the company will have decided by Friday whether or not the game will release on schedule. Robertson goes on to say that it could be delayed, but that "it's a possibility with a lot of games at this late stage."
Nintendo is holding another Nintendo Direct tomorrow that will focus on upcoming Wii U and 3DS games, so it's certainly possible that Star Fox news will come out of it. Whether or not that news is a delay, more details about the game remains uncertain. As always, it's best to take these rumors with a grain of salt until we have some kind of official confirmation, which, hopefully, shouldn't be too long.
Star Fox Zero is currently slated for release on April 22. When Star Fox Zero does release, it will be the first new entry in the franchise in a decade (if we aren't counting the 3DS remake of Star Fox 64). The last new entry in the franchise was Star Fox Command, released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS.
