Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced that they are making significant improvements to matchmaking for Halo 5: Guardians, in line with the celebration of the commencement of a new multiplayer season.

Last month, 343 Industries stated that it was working tirelessly to fix several issues that have been plaguing the title since it launched. Matchmaking has since been made largely functional, but there were still several issues that needed to be ironed out.

343 Industries said that the then upcoming update will make further improvements to the success rate of matchmaking, as well as making sure that the right number of maximum gamers is working as they should in playlists.

One issue that the developer mentioned was how ranking would affect the search times for matchmaking for certain gamers, as over time, it is possible for some players to accumulate skill values which make it hard for them to join matches. The issue forced some players to set up alternate accounts or join parties with gamers with much lower ranks.

343 Industries, however, said that it has implemented changes in the algorithm to ensure that gamers across all skill levels will be able to find matches faster. The improvements will improve the times for matchmaking and widen the number of gamers that are eligible to be matched up with other gamers across all skill levels and regions.

The developer also said that, due to the feedback that it received from the community, tweaks are also being made on the Onyx and Champion CSR. Gamers said that they noticed the possibility of being temporarily placed into Champion simply by being among the first 200 players in Onyx to finish their placement games for the season.

343 Industries said that it will be increasing the minimum CSR to receive the Champion rank from 1,500 to 1,800, and that it will be placing a cap of 1,700 on the highest CSR that gamers can earn after placement matches.

According to the developer, the changes will reserve the Champion rank for more elite players that will be rewarded by actually proving that they are among the best gamers in the world.

The changes have been rolled out on Feb. 1, and will not require gamers to download anything.
