LG has begun rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the LG G4 in South Korea, which hints at the possibility of an imminent release for the LG G4 in the United States.
LG's Korean website shows that the over-the-air update for Android 6.0 has started rolling out for users in the company's home turf. The update is now available for the LG G4 with model numbers LG-F500K, LG-F500L and LG-F500S.
LG is not known for its history of rolling out Android updates early. However, the South Korean smartphone maker was lightning-fast in releasing an Android 6.0 update right after the new operating system's release on the Nexus phones in October.
The release of Android 6.0 to the LG G4, however, was limited to users in Poland, a smaller market where the company could first test the software before making it available to wider audiences.
Although LG has not made official announcements, that the company is making the update available in South Korea, where it has more users than in Poland, indicates that Android 6.0 for LG G4 users in other markets including the U.S. is nearly ready for release.
Phone Radar says the international variants of the LG G4 with model numbers LG-H810, LG-H815, LG-H818 and others will receive the update to Android 6.0 in the "next couple of weeks."
Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the LG G4 does not look very different from Android Lollipop. The changes are integrated deeper into the system, with new features aimed at adding usability and security enhancements.
For instance, Android 6.0 on the LG G4 will allow users to navigate through their messages and emails using the keyboard's spacebar, similar to the Virtual Trackpad in iOS. Users will also be able to choose the specific permissions apps can access, although denying access to some information will result in some app features being not available.
Other features users can look forward to include Doze mode, which shuts down apps in the background when not in use, and Google Now on Tap, which pulls up useful information related to whatever's onscreen at a single tap.
