The upcoming iOS 18 will feature AI-powered Voice Memos and Notes apps that will allow real-time transcription of audio recordings, according to reports.

Notes do not currently feature audio recording. However, a report from The Verge states that iOS 18, which will be released later this year, will have this function.

Apple also adds an AI-powered summary feature to Notes to generate written summaries of captured audio.

Otter offers comparable functionality, but incorporating these capabilities within the iPhone ecosystem might lessen reliance on third-party applications.

Apple Notes AI Upgrade Advantages

The Notes app's planned enhancements will simplify recording and organizing vital information for students and professionals, according to AppleInsider. Users may record lectures and seminars on the app and include transcriptions, summaries, photos, links, and data tables.

These tools will benefit professionals attending conference calls, business meetings, or seminars by processing large volumes of information. Apple's AI technology will summarize information, business strategies, and calendars for easy study and reference.

The upcoming Apple Notes upgrades will also assist students to remember and understand difficult lectures and courses. Transcription and summarization of definitions, explanations, and examples can aid study.

The new Apple tools make it easier for journalists and creatives to transcribe and summarize interviews or save crucial ideas. The original audio makes the transcript and summary accurate and maintains source information.

Apple's AI project includes transcription and summarization to boost app productivity. Safari will use intelligent surfing to summarize webpages, while Messages will compress messaging.

The tech giant's focus on on-device AI processing shows its commitment to privacy. Initial AI features may require server-side processing, but the firm is reducing its dependency on external servers.

Apple wants to boost productivity by adding AI to its native apps, which also helps Apple compete with third-party apps like Otter and Microsoft's OneNote.

Despite the expectation of pre-release features at Apple's Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) in June, not all may make it into the final version. However, Apple device customers will benefit from AI summarization and transcription across workflows.

In an earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook stressed that AI features will prioritize customer privacy. Apple's research papers state that the iPhone will perform simple AI activities locally and make complicated requests to third-party servers.

Moreover, Apple is reportedly adding Siri AI to iOS 18 along with Notes and Voice Memos. These updates may include an analysis of the messages app text message and a Safari website summary.

iPad Pro Ad Draws Backlash; Apple Apologizes

In a separate development, Apple issued an apology after its recent advertisement drew backlash.

Its latest iPad Pro ad campaign faced criticism. In the video, after a hydraulic press crushed creative equipment and devices in the commercial, the latest iPad Pro appeared. 

GSMArena reported that Apple's VP of Marketing Communications, Tor Myhren, stressed the company's dedication to innovation, creativity, and universal empowerment. Myhren apologized for the commercial, saying that Apple regrets the video's "failure." 

Apple's YouTube account hosts the "Crush!" commercial despite the uproar. The company says it will not be shown on TV.
