The Meta Quest headset is now introducing a new 'Travel Mode' that will allow users to enjoy augmented and/or virtual reality experiences even on moving vehicles.

However, its most advanced feature lets users enjoy it while on a flight toward a destination, which would prove to be either an alternative or the only option for in-airplane entertainment tailored to the content they prefer.

In this feature, Meta specifically made Travel Mode for airplane rides, offering a specific algorithm that adheres to how an airplane is in the air.

Mark Zuckerberg shared a new post on Instagram showcasing the latest 'Travel Mode' feature available on Quest headsets, specifically with the Quest 3 he wore.

The clip showed that despite traveling on an airplane, the headset works as intended and is not affected by the aircraft's motion. It even showcased streaming, games, shopping, and the Passthrough feature.

According to the Meta Quest blog, this feature is now available for users to access via the beta and is touted as the "ultimate in-flight entertainment" option.

The company claimed that it "tuned" its algorithm, which takes into account the airplane's movement, for this use, one that would not disrupt or affect the headset and its functions despite the ongoing flight.

The Quest may connect to the WiFi, if available, which will give users more to do and enjoy from this Travel Mode, such as streaming, gaming, browsing the web, and even claiming they can work via the devices.

The company also partnered with Lufthansa to offer custom content via the Lufthansa Allegris Business Class Suite.

In the future, other modes of transportation will be available via Quest's Travel Mode, with trains being its special mention.

Meta Quest and Its Renowned Features

Wearable headset use has only been recommended for homes, offices, or other closed spaces where users would not put themselves or others in harm's way, especially when it only offered VR.

However, mixed reality came in, and Meta adopted this technology to augment reality via AR and incorporate more of the world outside the device with the Quest 3.

That being said, while not recommended, users may use the Quest 3 XR headset anywhere they like with the new Passthrough feature, which allows users to see what is out there and pay attention to the outside world.

Passthrough offers a way to see more of the world, integrating AR and VR. Several users use it in coffee shops or other places.

Despite these features, Quest 3 was not made for use while traveling, especially when the person wearing it is behind the wheel. It does not matter if the device has a Passthrough or not; the same goes for the Vision Pro.

That being said, Quest owners who are going on flights are now given the chance to pick up where they left off with the Travel Mode, offering the power of both AR and VR for their long journeys with countless entertainment available.
