President Joe Biden and the White House are now mandating the appointment of a 'Chief AI Officer' for each US agency in the country amidst the arrival of its new government-wide policies for artificial intelligence. While there are already several agencies that have hired a new AI head, there are still those who have not yet done so and are given 60 days to comply.
This new policy is under the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), signaling a further step into accepting AI into massive parts of the American people's lives.

Designate Chief AI Officers, who will coordinate the use of AI across their agencies. Since December, OMB and the Office of Science and Technology Policy have regularly convened these officials in a new Chief AI Officer Council to coordinate their efforts across the Federal Government and to prepare for implementation of OMB's guidance.

It requires the appointees to have "significant expertise in AI," with the new policy looking to explore both the dangers and benefits of the tech for the country.

OMB, White House's New AI Policies
Vice President Kamala Harris also introduced the new OMB policy which encompasses the AI adoption and integration of the US government.
It is the "first government-wide policy to mitigate risks of artificial intelligence (AI) and harness its benefits."
With this move, the US government is welcoming AI with open arms, but this also means that it will keep it under a microscope across all federal agencies, with the Chief AI Officers accounting for its application in each department.

Artificial intelligence is all around us, with renowned Big Tech companies integrating the technology to be part of people's daily lives, initially starting with chatbots like ChatGPT, and now evolving to various sectors. Despite being initially wary of AI, the US government is now embracing the tech, initially forming the US AI Safety Consortium (AISIC) with OpenAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and more.
Various US agencies have also announced their adoption of AI to improve more of their operations and developments, incorporating the technology to help them move forward. In Homeland Security, it launched AI-centered programs for three of its agencies including FEMA, HSI, and ICE that will use large language models to sort massive data warehouses and speed up investigation reports.
It is also known that the Biden administration allocated a whopping $3.3 billion for artificial intelligence developments in the country's 2025 budget.
POTUS Biden, VP Harris, the White House, and the OMB are now looking towards a government-wide policy for AI, with new chief AI officers to serve as leaders in this massive campaign by the US.
